Viewing and Printing of DVI and Postscript Files
- DVI and Postscript files are gzip'ed to reduce network traffic.
Your viewer should be able to handle that format automatically.
- When you select a DVI file from mosaic or netscape, it is immediately
presented for viewing using the xdvi program.
Since you cannot print the file from xdvi, you must save it to
disk first.
- mosaic:
To download and print DVI-files, first select "Load to local
disk" in the Options menu. Then select the link to the DVI file.
You will be prompted to provide a file name for the copy of the
file you are saving. The filename extension should be ".dvi.gz".
Once you have saved the file, gunzip and print it. Don't forget
to de-select the "Load to local disk" option.
- netscape:
On Windows and UNIX, clicking the right mouse button produces a pop-up
menu with items
that are shortcuts for several commands. On Macintosh, holding down the
mouse button
produces the pop-up menu. The pop-up menu is particularly useful when
pressing the mouse
button over a link.
Select "Save this Link as...". This
saves the specified page (i.e. the dvi-file) to disk.
- Since the ghostscript viewer has a "Print"-button, the
above procedure does not apply to Postscript files.
